WHAT IS POINTE?

Pointe is a part of the classical ballet technique where dancers who are strong in their ballet technique dance in special shoes called pointe shoes. Pointe dancers perform classical ballet in the shoes that are structured to allow them to rise to the tips of their toes.

BENEFITS OF POINTE

As dance helps you increase your body strength, it can help create stronger bones, too. If you’re bearing weight during exercise, such as on your legs when rising en pointe in ballet, this helps improve bone strength or even build new bone mass in your target area.

WHAT TO WEAR

Leotard, tights, hair pulled up and pointe shoes. On Stage Performance does not sell pointe shoes. OSP recommends Footlight Dance & Theatre Boutique in Frederick Md. OSP does not sew pointe shoe strings or straps on.  (skirts or shorts are optional to wear in class.)

POINTE REQUIRMENTS

Must be enrolled in ballet and must have one year experience of ballet or demi pointe. Must be 13+.
